der von jean nouvel entworfene gläserne wolkenkratzer wurde 2010 eröffnet und befindet sich gegenüber vom schwedenplatz. passend zum konzept des 5-sterne hotels wurde im unteren bereich das stilwerk geplant. in diesem befinden sich 26 shops die design für jeden bedarf anbieten. von wohnen, über bad bis zu büro ist alles erhältlich. sowohl vitra als auch boconcept stellen auf einer fläche von bis zu 450 m² ihre einrichtungsgegenstände zum ausprobieren zur verfügung. oberhalb des sofitels ist das panoramarestaurant „le loft“ zu finden. dessen decke ist vor allem in der nacht auf grund der leuchtenden farben von weitem zu erkennen. da es sich bei der vermeintlichen abstrakten zeichnung nur um ein vergrössertes foto von bäumen handelt ist der anblick des leuchtkörpers aus der nähe eher enttäuschend. das stilwerk besitzt 3 eingänge die von aussen wenig einladend wirken. im inneren dominiert die farbe schwarz in kombination mit spiegelnden flächen. das gestaltungskonzept an sich besticht durch die starken kontraste zwischen den dunklen flächen und den leuchtmitteln im inneren, ob diese kombination zu einer guten einkaufs-atmosphäre beiträgt sei dahingestellt. dennoch führt dies architektonisch gesehen zu einer inneren dynamik die einen düsteren eindruck vermittelt. der überdachte lichthof bietet einen blick auf den hinab fallenden regen bei schlechtwetter. ein interessantes detail bietet das grün der feuermauer des nachbargebäudes, von der das gebäude weggerückt wurde, da die begrünung die härte der schlucht zwischen den gebäuden entschärft. die enorme höhe des gebäudes wurde mit dem argument es sei ein tor zum 2 bezirk begründet.

It’s located next to the schwedenplatz and contains a 5-star hotel and the stilwerk vienna which offers 26 shops that sell products for living and office. furthermore there are showrooms of vitra and boconcept located in the mall. at the top of the sofitel you can find the restaurante “le loft”. it’s possible to see the coloured top of the construction from far away especially at night. unfortunatelly the highlighted picture is not an abstract painting like it seems from the bottom but a scaled part of a wood. the stilwerk can be entered through 3 doors but all of them aren’t really inviting. inside the colour black dominates and creates a contrast to the luminous elements. if that creates a good atmosphere for shopping remains unsettled. however the combination leads to a architectural dynamic that has an dusky appearance. the covered halation enables you to see the falling rain when the weather is bad. moreover the leafy fire-proof wall of the neighboring building is a nice detail and reduces the hardness of the canyon between the buildings. the enormous hight of the construction was justified with the argument that the building represents a gate from the inner city to the 2nd district.
