die festung namens castillo de santa barbara befindet sich auf dem vulkan guanapay in der nähe von teguise. im 16.jahrhundert wurde sie auf den überresten des alten forts von sancho de herrera errichtet, um die bevölkerung vor piraten angriffen zu schützen. im laufe der zeit wurde die ritterburg beschädigt und musste im 17.jahrhundert rekonstruiert werden. der ausbau wurde von leonardo torriani durchgeführt. wobei sich die struktur der festung seit 1596 nicht geändert hat, so sind beispielsweise die kleinen rundtürme und die zugbrücke erhalten geblieben. seit 1991 befindet sich ein emigrantenmuseum in den Gemäuern. dieses wurde 2010 durch ein piratenmuseum erweitert. von der dachterrasse aus ist ein guter blick auf die umgebende landschaft gegeben.
