21er haus – karl schwanzer, restaurierung adolf krischanitz
das 21er haus wurde von karl schwanzer, als österreichischer pavillon für die expo in brüssel, im jahr 1958 entworfen und von 1962-2001 in wien als museum des 20.jahrhunderts genutzt. seit der restaurierung, adaptierung und erweiterung durch adolf krischanitz im jahr 2011 trägt das museum den namen 21er haus und bildet die dependance zur galerie belvedere. österreichische kunst des 20. und 21. jahrhundert wird gezeigt. das bauwerk erinnert in seiner ästhetik, bis auf die farbgebung und proportionen der elemente, an die neue nationalgalerie in berlin von mies van der rohe. der verglaste und transparente sockel steht im gegensatz zum auskragenden geschlossenen quader im oberen bereich.
the so called 21er house was designed by karl schwanzer for the expo in brussels in the year 1958 and represented the austrian pavillon at the expo. after that the building has been relocated to vienna and used as a museum for the art of the 20th century from 1962-2001. furthermore the construction has been renovated and extended in the year 2011 by adolf krischanitz and is used as the museum for the austrian art in the 20th and 21st century since then. the appearance of the structure reminds of the new nationalgalerie in berlin, which has been designed by mies van der rohe, except of the colours and the propotions of the elements. in addition the glazed and transparent base shows the contrast to the overhanging and closed ashlar on the top.
