l’illa de la quarantena
die lazarett insel liegt vor der hauptstadt menorcas und ist mit schiffen aus mao zu erreichen. im 13. jahrhundert mussten alle ankommenden reisenden vor dem betreten menorcas eine vorgegebene zeitspanne im eigens dafür errichteten lazarett auf der kleinen insel verbringen um die stadt vor der in europa wütenden pestepidemie zu schützen. ein komplex mit verschiedenen gebäuden entstand um medizinische untersuchungen durchzuführen und die menschen während dem aufenthalt zu beherbergen. das hauptbauwerk, das als krankenhaus diente, ist monumental und ersteckt sich über die südspitze der insel. neben den hübschen fläschchen in der ehemaligen apotheke sind medizinische geräte zu finden, die eher an folterinstrumente erinnern. 1993 wurde die illa de la quarantena von der unesco zum weltnaturerbe erklärt.
the sick bay island is lockated infront of the capital city of menroca and can be reached by ship from mao. in the 13th century all arriving passengers had to stay at the sick bay for a while until they could enter mao. at that time the black death that was raging all over europe. the complex consists of several buildings that were used for checkups and to house people during theit stay. furthermore the main building, that was used as a hospital, is monumental and placed on the southern part of the small island. over and above the nice baby bottles in the former pharmacy you can find medical equipment that looks like instruments of torture. in the year 1993 unesco declared the illa de la quarantena as world natural heritage.
