sentosa – brandi – marina south bay
die im süden situierte insel namens sentosa („frieden“) ist per seilbahn oder mit dem sentosa express zu erreichen. der ehemalige britische militärstützpunkt wird seit 2006 als naherholungsgebiet für die bevölkerung mit zahlreichen vergnügungsmöglichkeiten genutzt. bereits die anreise mittels seilbahn ermöglicht einen ausführlichen blick auf die bauwerke und die stadt von der man sich entfernt. die gesamte insel ist eine art vergnügungspark für erwachsene. während die hauptattraktionen weniger interessant erscheinen, sind die etwas entlegeneren stellen durchaus sehenswert. besonders spannend ist die tatsache, dass der ursprüngliche name der insel „pulau belakang mati“ war, was so viel bedeutet wie „die insel des todes“. die umbenennung fand erst im jahr 1972 statt, wobei der neue name im rahmen eines wettbewerbes ermittelt wurde. die strände sind beinahe menschenleer und sehr gepflegt. sowohl von sentosa als auch von der marina bay aus, ist die kleine industriell genutzte insel brandi zu sehen. hier ist ein container-terminal und ein marinestützpunkt angeordnet. ein weitaus grösseres industriegebiet ist im westen von singapur zu finden. der kontrast der kräne zum hochglazimage der marina bay und der künstlichkeit von sentosa bietet einen interessanten bruch zum rest der stadt. das marina bay cruise center ist bei der u-bahnstation „marina south pier“ zu finden. wenn keine kreuzfahrschiffe angelegt haben ist das zentrum geschlossen und die garage vollkommen leer. trotz dem funktionalen charakter des gebäudes und den industriellen elementen ist ein enormer gestaltungswille zu erkennen. in singapur wird scheinbar nichts dem zufall überlassen. alles ist designed.
the island named sentosa is lockated in the south of the city. it’s possible to get there by a cable car or the sentosa express. when you arrive by the ropeway you get a great view at all buildings of the island and the city center. furthermore the former military base is used as a local recreation area since 2006 and contains a kind of a pleasure ground for adults. allthough the main attractions don’t seem to be that interesting there are far reaches on the island that are fascinating. furthermore the fact that the island was called “pulau belakang mati“, which means “island of death” is funny because of the function that the island has nowadays. the new name was given to it in the year 1972 and means “peace”. the beaches are very clean and allmost deserted. near by you can find brandi island, which is used as a container terminal and a naval base. however there is a much bigger industrial area in the west of the city. the contrast between the cranes, the highly polished marina bay and the artificality of sentosa is truly fascinating. when there are no cruisers at the marina cruise center than the building is closed officuialy, but it’s possible to go into the garage anyway. the construction is located at the marina south pier and contains creative parts even though it’s clear to see that it’s a functional building. it seems that in singapore nothing happens by mistake. everything is designed.
