die donau city towers sind zwei von dominique perrault entworfene wolkenkratzer mit einer höhe von 220 bzw. 168 m. wobei der höhere der beiden türme im jahr 2014 eröffnet wurde und der bau des zweiten auf grund der wirtschaftlichen umstände frühestens 2017 beginnen soll. prinzipiell sollte der komplex aus 3 gebäuden besehen, allerdings wurde das aussehen des dritten turmes noch nicht geplant. im jahr 2007 fand eine umwidmung des baulandes statt die es erlaubte den turm bis zu 220 m hoch zu bauen, davor war eine maximale gebäudehöhe von 120 m zulässig. das gläserne gebäude scheint an der süd-ost fassade aus vertikalen bändern zu bestehen die sich entlang der fassade auf und zuklappen. der zweite turm war als spiegelung des ersten, mit einer niedrigeren höhe geplant, wodurch die doppeltürme als eingangstor für den stadtteil dienen sollten. ein highlight ist die kostenpflichtige aber öffentlich zugängliche skyterrasse, die aus einem offenen und einem geschlossenen bereich besteht und einen eindrucksvollen ausblick auf die stadt wien bietet. auf grund der gläsernen einfassung im aussenbereich ist es windstill und gefühlsmässig wärmer als am boden. prinzipiell sind einige ansätze des entwurfes gut gelungen, die wirkung des komplexes würde allerdings mit dem bau des zweiten turmes deutlich zunehmen.

the donau city towers are 2 skyscrapes that were designed by dominique perrault and supposed to have a hight of 220 and 168 m. though only the higher one of the towers was allredy built and opened in the year 2014. the other one ist going to be started 2017 because of the economic circumstantces. actuelly perrault designed a complex of three towers in the beginning but the appearance of the third one is still not clear. because of a permission in the year 2007 it was possible to build a skyscraper with the hight of 220 m, before that only 120 m were allowed. however the facade which is made out of glas seems to be verticaly fragmented into tapes that are folded at the south-east side of the cosntruction. the second tower was designed as a mirroring of the first tower with a hight of 168 m, whereby the two skyscrapers should be like a gate to the district. for me the skyterrace is a highlight of the building and offers a beautiful view at vienna. because of the bordering of the terrace with glas it seems to be less cold up there than at the ground floor. on the whole there are good aspects of the design but the impression would be stronger if the second tower would allredy exist.
