die ufo-brücke wurde von tesar, lacko und slameň entworfen und 1972 fertiggestellt. sie führt über die donau und wird von der bevölkerung “most snp” genannt. da mein großvater zur zeit der errichtung im führenden geodäsie-team der slowakei tätig war und auch auf der uni von bratislava unterrichtet hat, war er an den vermessungsarbeiten der brücke beteiligt. konzipiert ist das bauwerk als asymmetrische schrägseilbrücke mit einer hauptspannweite von 303m, wobei die stahlkonstruktion an seilen hängt die von zwei pfeilern abgespannt werden. in einem davon befindet sich der aufzug der bis zum restaurant fährt, welches sich in 80m höhe befindet und einen ausblick auf die gesamte stadt bietet. auf grund der enormen innovation der konstruktion für die damalige zeit wurde die brücke im jahr 2001 zum „bauwerk des jahrhunderts“ erklärt. tatsächlich wirkt das konstrukt wie von einem anderen stern und erinnert an die ausserirdischen lebensformen aus dem film „krieg der welten“. besonders imposant und bedrohlich wirkt das ufo-förmige restaurant bei nacht wenn die angebrachten leuchtmittel es „schweben“ lassen. die apollo-brücke wurde 2005 fertiggestellt und sollte die vorhandenen verbindungen entlasten. es handelt sich um eine klassische stabbogenbrücke mit einer gesamtlänge von 854m. des weiteren gibt es noch die alte brücke, die nach dem zweiten weltkrieg von den russen wiedererrichtet wurde. momentan wird sie modernisiert und ist somit nicht befahrbar.

It leads over the river danube and was named “most snp”. my grandpa taught at the university of bratislava at that time and was a member of the most popular geodesy team of slovakia so he participated at the survey work. the cable-stayed bridge has a main range of 303m. furthermore the steel constuction dangles on ropes that are fixed on 2 huge columns. in one of them you can find the elevator that drives up to the restaurante that is lockated in a hight of 80m and offers a great view over the whole city. because of the innovative constuction the brigde was marked as the example of architecture of the century in the year 2001. actually the construct seems to be from a different planet and remindes of the alien life form from the movie “the war of the worlds”. especially at night when the lights are shining it looks like the ufo is floating. however the apollo-bridge was build in the year 2005 to relieve the existing connectiones of the river banks. it’s a typical arched bridge and has a lenght of 854m. in addition there is the old bridge that was rebuild by the russians after world war II. right now it’s under construction and can’t be used because of that.

am flussufer befindet sich das moderne büro-, wohn- und geschäftsviertel namens eurovea und das neue gebäude des nationaltheaters. dieses wurde vom architekten-team kusy, panak und bauer entworfen und 2007 eröffnet. im gegensatz zum eher modern gehaltenen stadtviertel verkörpert die architektur dieses gebäudes verwunderlicher weise eher die postmoderne. die monumentalität in kombination mit den verspiegelten glaselementen bietet einen netten kontrast, wobei die gebogenen postmodernen elemente fraglich und unnötig sind. interessant ist der zubau der nationalgalerie der sich in unmittelbarer nähe befindet. dieser wurde von vladimir dedecek entworfen und 1969 eröffnet. spannend ist die raue ästhetik der verwitterten etagen die versetzt zueinander angeordnet sind und zwischen zwei barocktrakten der galerie eingespannt zu sein scheinen. auf grund der öffnung des erdgeschosses zur strasse hin ist ein einblick in den hof der galerie möglich. leider wird der zubau wegen seiner baufälligkeit seit langer zeit nicht mehr für ausstellungzwecke genutzt. viele stadtbewohner sehen das bauwerk als monument des sozialismus und würden es am liebsten aus dem blickfeld entfernen. allerdings macht gerade die monumentalität und geschlossenheit der elemente den charme dieser konstruktion aus.
the modern residential and business quarter named eurovea and the new nationaltheater are located directly next to the river bank. actually the theater was opened in the year 2007 but it was designed in a postmodern way from a team of architects named kusy, panak and bauer. the combination of the monumental material of the facade and the metallised glass in the front leads to an interesting contrast but the postmodern elements like the rounded center are not necessary. however the annex of the nationalgallery is very interesting and located near by. the building was designed by vladimir dedecek and opened in the year 1969. a fascinating part is the rough aesthetics of the weathered elements that are shifted and seem to be fixed between baroque wings of the gallery. because of the open ground floor it’s possible to have a look into the courtyard of the whole complex. unfotunately there was no art inside of the building for a long time because of the disrepair of the extension. many towner don’t like the building because they think that it’s a monument of the socialism. however it’s the monumrntality and closeness of the elements that creates the charm of this constuction.
